TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — In a message posted to Facebook, Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare's Vice President/Chief Communications Officer Stephanie Derzypolski urged those who are unvaccinated to get their shot while adding that those being hospitalized currently are younger than before.

"Today we have 70 Covid patients at TMH. The overwhelming majority of them are unvaccinated which means these hospitalizations (and many eventual deaths) could’ve been prevented," Derzypolski wrote. "This is no longer people with co-morbidities in their 70s and 80s but otherwise healthy people in their 20s 30s and 40s."

The post came as Florida broke its previous record for current hospitalizations on Sunday, a record that was set more than a year ago.

Derzypolski also added that some of the people being hospitalized are begging for vaccines from doctors, but that it is too late for them.

"I beg you to get vaccinated if you haven’t," Derzypolski wrote. "And, if you’ve already had Covid, you can get your vaccine after 90 days. If you had COVID some time ago, it is likely you did not have Delta which means you are still susceptible to getting COVID again (but Delta this time). The vaccine is 80% effective against the Delta variant. As you are seeing, Delta is at least 50% more contagious than alpha."
