JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — The Florida Department of Corrections confirms that three employees at the Apalachee Correctional Institution have tested positive for coronavirus.

Across the state, 26 employees at Florida's correctional facilities have tested positive for COVID-19. Apalachee CI's first case was reported on March 30.

Locally, Liberty Correctional Institution has also reported that an employee at the insitution has tested positive for coronavirus.

"In order to protect the personal health information of these individuals, FDC will not identify the name or occupation of the employees at these facilities. Staff listed above may be employed by FDC or one of its contractors," officials wrote in a statement.

So far, Jackson County has four confirmed cases of COVID-19. Liberty County has none as of April 6.

Any correctional employee who is symptomatic, or who has tested positive for COVID-19, will not be allowed to go back to work until a full recovery is documented by a medical professional and DOH and CDC guidelines are followed.

If an inmate shows symptoms of COVID-19, medical staff will place the inmate in medical isolation, pending DOH testing.
