TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — 211 Big Bend has seen an increase in calls since the start of the pandemic.

The agency's 24-hour hotline provides assistance for those who are in crisis.

They say many people calling in are worried about the virus and what they can do to make sure they don’t get it.

211 says when comparing 2019’s call volume to this year there is a significant spike.

"Just between February and March we’ve seen a 27 percent jump," said Christopher Turner, the director of Development and Communications. "And then, comparing this March to last March we’ve seen just about a 70 percent jump in call volumes."

Turner says there are about 400 calls about COVID-19 daily.

During this crisis, the agency is fully operational and anyone who needs help, or just someone to talk to, can call 211.
