TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Dog owners got a chance Sunday to show off their beautiful and athletic dogs as a part of the 2019 North Florida Cluster Dog Show.

While a dogs performance might only last 1 to 2 minutes.

Dog owners and handlers say the hardest part of getting a dog ready for a show is time and effort.

"During the week they are o the treadmills, they are getting bathes, dried, co-conditioning, physical conditioning. They get to run in the yard and play, mental conditioning," said Rindi Gaudet an all-breed professional handler.

Dana Phillips owns a nutherland dog named Josef, Who is currently the 4th ranked nutherland in the nation.

But getting Josef to that spot not only took numerous hours but was also expensive.

"It terms of the total cost including the handler fees I would say for this show, because it's a big show it is probably close to 1500 dollars," said Stacy price agility dog owner.

Show dogs are not the only dogs that require a lot of effort and money.

For agility dogs, many are not ready to compete before completing 1 to 2 years of training.

"I train him a couple times anywhere from to 2 to 3 times a week. Sometimes they are short sessions and sometimes we are actually at a class that we are spending an hour or more at."

While each dog requires different amount of time, effort, and money.

Many owners have one goal in mine and that is to win their competition.
