Authorities release identity of man who died in Tallahassee house fire

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — The Leon County Sheriff's Office has identified the man who died in Wednesday’s house fire on Tower Wood Trail as 45-year-old Marcus Jackson.

Deputies say the woman who was also injured remains in critical condition.

The fire is still under investigation by the Tallahassee Fire Department and State of Florida’s Division of Financial Services, Division of Investigative and Forensic Services.


The Leon County Sheriff's office says one person is dead and another person is in critical condition after a fire gutted a home in northwest Leon County.

At 12:58 a.m. on Wednesday, the Tallahassee Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire in the 5500 block of Tower Wood Trail located in northwest Leon County.

When crews arrived, there was heavy smoke and fire coming from the home.

LCSO says two deputies went inside the home and pulled a woman a woman out to begin life saving measures. TFD also rescued a man from the burning home.

Both were then transported to Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare by Leon County EMS where the man died. The woman who was rescued is currently listed in critical condition.

Deputies are waiting to identify the man until family is notified.

The fire caused an estimated $130,000 in damages and is considered a total loss.

The cause is currently under investigation by TFD and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
