JEFFERSON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — Three Summerset School students and a school bus driver were hurt in a Wednesday morning crash in Jefferson County, according to state troopers.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 7:15 a.m. on C.R. 149 at Hopson Road.

They said a school bus was going southbound on C.R. 149 and picking up Summerset School students, when the bus driver noticed a student walking out of his house.

The driver told FHP the student hadn't ridden the bus in a few days so she came to a stop on C.R. 149 and began reversing toward the child's home, only activating the bus’s emergency flashers and not the yellow caution or red stop lights.

A car was behind the bus when it came to a stop, troopers said, and tried to alert the bus driver that there were vehicles behind it by honking the horn.

Failing to notice the car behind her, the bus driver continued backing up the bus, leading to a crash.

The driver of the bus, the driver of the car behind the bus and three students, aged 12, 13 and 16, suffered minor injuries in the crash.
