(WTXL) — Thanks to the people from 211 Big Bend, people who need help with a ride to a job interview or a food pantry can get it for free.
Lyft and 211 Big Bend are offering eligible residents free rides to local resources including food pantries, job interviews and CareerSource Capital Region.
According to 211 Big Bend, the program is funded through the United Way World Wide, the United Way of the Big Bend and Lyft.
Rides are available in Gadsden, Jefferson, Leon and Wakulla counties from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. Rides are not available on the weekends.
Shelby Smith, the community navigator for 211 Big Bend, spoke to us about their focus.
"We decided to focus on food and employment services particularly because that is a need in our community that we found," Smith explained. "So just kind of determining what we wanted to focus on was a long process and we're excited to roll this out."
Officials say residents must call at least 24 hours in advance to request a ride. This program is expected to last until at least June 2020.
