LAFAYETTE COUNTY, Fla. — A 17-year-old was killed and three other teenagers have been hospitalized following a crash involving a school bus Friday morning in Lafayette County.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened at about 7:41 a.m. Friday on County Road 300, west of C F Hart Lane.
FHP said a school bus carrying 23 Lafayette County students was traveling eastbound on CR 300 when a driver in a Mazda pickup truck hit the back of the bus.
FHP stated the driver of the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have identified him as 17-year-old Chandler Lancaster, of Mayo.
The passengers in the pickup truck, three teenagers ages 14 to 17, were taken to the hospital. FHP said two of the teens are in critical condition and a third is in serious condition. All were taken to Shands UF hospital.
There were no injuries reported to the students on the bus.
Alcohol was not a factor in the accident and charges are pending further investigation.
