TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- Muslim communities around the world have been under attack -- critics claiming the acts of ISIS represent the faith.

The Muslim community in Tallahassee says the attacks were carried out by a group that's giving Islam a bad name.

Imam Amro Abdalla of the Islamic Center of Tallahassee says the root of the word "Islam" is "peace" in the Arabic language.

He says anyone who claims to be Muslim and acts violently is not a true follower of the faith. He says the attacks in Paris have negatively affected Muslims everywhere.

"We are hurt twice," Abdalla said. "First of all, by this bad incident happening, and the other thing that somebody claimed that this is an Islamic practice. No way! Impossible."

Abdalla says just because ISIS claims its actions are done in the name of Islam doesn't mean they're right, adding there's a very small group in every religion that abuses and misinterprets their own faith.

"It is easy to talk, but where is reality?" he said. "If they can claim they are representing Islam, well, everyone can claim anything. I can claim my shoes is a Mercedes car."

A number of Muslim groups around the world have been threatened after the terror attacks. The Islamic Center of Tallahassee says it has not received any threats.
