TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)  - The future of farming is here. James Shanks Middle School has introduced its Aquaponics program, which is a hands on teaching approach to science education.

Students and staff will grow food for the school's cafeteria, and whatever foods is available, the students can take home.

The subjects of the program include plant growth, PH levels, and other impacts on the environment.

"What better environment to nurture a young student than an environment that young students are nurturing life themselves," said Michele Madison the president of Farming the Future.

She also believes participating in the program will give students an early appreciation for science, thus ensuring their success in education.
