FRANKLIN COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Relief efforts continue for the 36 families who lost their homes during the wildfire in Eastpoint.
In just a few days, the Leon County Sheriff's Office was able to fill a 30-foot truck with household supplies and basic necessities, thanks to community-wide support for Franklin County.
36 families lost everything except the clothes on their back in the wildfire.
That's exactly why LCSO teamed up with Immanuel Baptist Church, food share, and other groups to bring supplies to donation centers in Eastpoint.
Organizers say, what they need most is furniture, home goods, and cleaning supplies to start over again in their new houses.
"The state is giving them all $5,000 to help them transition into the first step of where they're going to live while they rebuild," said Tamara Allen, Franklin's Promise Chairmen. "And what we're hoping to have here is enough furniture and housewares for them to be able to start over again in their new home."
Allen says once relief efforts started, they were overwhelmed trying to store all the donated clothes.
Allen says, these donations from LCSO and other Tallahassee groups are giving these families what they need most.
