TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Residents of Guatemala are still on edge after two eruptions from Volcano Fuego this week.

With massive devastation and threats that the volcano could erupt a third time, the Tallahassee based missionary group, Medical Missions Team, is not able to provide aid, but they are remaining in touch with families in the area.

We spoke to one of those families currently in Antigua, Guatemala.

They say the volcano regularly rumbles, and it's common to see puffs of smoke come from it, but they've never experienced anything so devastating before.

"I think one of the things that makes the situation so tragic is that we're so accustomed to the eruptions and nobody reacted," said David Von Cannon, who currently lives in Antigua. "In the moment that it was beginning, I think everybody just went on with life as normal and didn't think that this about to be a massive eruption."

The Von Cannon family says they have been working diligently to help refugee families in need.
