TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - A local food bank has sent a truck with 22,000 lbs of rice and beans, water, bedding, and other essential items on Friday to the citizens impacted by the Louisiana flooding.
The Second Harvest of the Big Bend, a food bank based in Tallahassee, said they have sent staff to Louisiana and they will be staying for about a week to assist with the Louisiana disaster recovery effort.
"As a member of the Feeding America food bank network, we're committed to assisting other communities with disaster recovery, in the same way that other food banks will come to our aid should we ever need it here in the Big Bend," said Rick Minor, Chief Executive Officer of Second Harvest.
The remaining Second Harvest staff has filled in, so that regularly scheduled food deliveries within the Big Bend are unaffected.
