TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) -- The Leon County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) and Flagler College are teaming up to honor and salute local law enforcement by helping them get degrees. This week, law enforcement agencies across the country are being honored during National Police Week.

And in Tallahassee, Flagler College honored LCSO with a picnic and a new program helping sworn law enforcement and correctional officers earn a bachelor's degree at a discount, only several hundred dollars a year.

Flagler College's Dean says this program is the perfect way to honor law enforcement officers of all ages.

"We have sheriff's deputies in the 20s, [30s] 40s, and 50s. For the 20 year old, it enables them to progress throughout their career in law enforcement", said Flagler College Dean Donald Parks. "For the person who wants to be a career changer, maybe they have 25 or 30 years with the force, it provides them a bachelor's degree so they can go on to a second career if they wanted. And then there is the just the satisfaction of accomplishing that goal of having a bachelor's degree."

If you are a member of law enforcement, you can still apply for the discount online.
