TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - While some businesses are bustling with last minute shoppers, others are looking a little different.

Most college students are out of town to spend Christmas with their families causing some businesses near campus to see a change in their usual patronage.

Owners of local businesses say their is a definite shift in what they see in their stores during this time of year.

During the high time for students in Tallahassee, businesses will usually a spike in sales during the later hours.

However, during this time where students are absent, they see that spike happen more during the earlier hours.

"The college students, especially the local ones, being gone definitely affects us but it's not detrimental. We get different crowds that come out here right, you know the business sort of gets an uptick," said Zach Bartlett, the general manager at Madison Social. "There's more parking available in Collegetown when the students are gone. So they wanna come out and check out what the buzz is about. Something they might not always typically do."

Owners attribute this change to locals returning home and wanting to check out spots they might usually avoid due to the immense student population.
