It's cool. It's different. It's unique. The search is on for the unconventional in our very own backyard. Over the next several weeks, WTXL's Christine Souders is taking you on an adventure to discover what makes the area 'Funky with an F.'
TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - You know the saying, "some people wear their heart on their sleeve?" Well, some are choosing to wear their "funkiness" on their head. This week we are looking at a local barbershop bringing back some classic hairdos to the Tallahassee area.
Greg Picnic, the owner of "Livin in the Cut", said what makes his shop a cut above the traditional barbershop is his diverse group of barbers.
"They can cut any type of hair; any texture, any style," said Picnic.
Livin in the Cut opened seven years ago on Ocala and Pensacola with a mission to allow everyone to express themselves, no matter what background, race, or age.
"From a baby's first haircut to an old man's last haircut. We have a really diverse clientele and I think it shows through the barbers we have," said Picnic.
Picnic and his crew are not only turning out some of the best retro-styles around, but they are giving patrons the chance to have something that is unique as well.
"Everything from the Tomahawk Chop, which is always fun around football season, trombone with a star and American Flag, freestyle with stars, 3D effects on little boys if they did well in school. Make them the funky, coolest kid in school," said Picnic.
Florida State Freshmen Trayvon Johnson comes in weekly. His haircut of choice is the high-top.
"It's what the girls like," said Johnson.
Another regular, Louis Gonzales, said he goes to Livin in the Cut for the quality of the haircut.
"It's always super consistent and good work, never been unhappy," said Gonzales.
