JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - A lightning strike from a big storm that moved through the Charleston area on Saturday afternoon was caught on camera.
On James Island, the storm got so bad around 3 p.m. that Live 5’s Michal Higdon’s husband pulled over along Folly Road to wait it out.
While recording a video, he caught his own car being struck by lightning. This happened at the Sunoco gas station off of Folly Road near the James Island connector. We’re happy to report he is okay!
Storms left thousands without power Saturday afternoon.
At 4:50 p.m., SCE&G reported 2,417 outages in Charleston County, down from 4,120 at 4:15 p.m. Berkeley Electric Coop reported 107 outages in Berkeley County.
Meanwhile, flooding was reported in downtown and parts of James Island.
This is nothing short of incredible. Props to this stranger for beating the floods we’re seeing right now. And thanks to viewer Jackie Toro for sending this in to @Live5News #chsnews #chswx pic.twitter.com/hGeDg9ud8j
