MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL) - A home caught on fire due to a lighting strike Saturday evening in Midway.
The owner, who lives on Stevens Drive, was not at home at the time of the fire and says he got a call from a neighbor, who heard a loud bang, about the fire while he was at a restaurant around 4 p.m.
Tallahassee Fire Chief Jerry Flanders Jr. says he is almost positive the fire was due to a lightning strike.
"So there was a big thunderstorm to come through. One of the neighbors said that they heard a big boom and then after that they saw flames coming from the building," said Flanders Jr.
The owner says a lot of his belongings have been destroyed and there was a lot of smoke damage inside the house.
Flanders Jr. says they are unsure about estimated damages at this time and it's still under investigation.
