ATLANTA (AP) - This year, two Libertarian candidates could wreak havoc on Georgia's top races with control of the U.S. Senate potentially on the line.
Libertarian candidates in Georgia typically receive only a few percentage points but that could be the difference. Polls suggest very tight races between Democrat Michelle Nunn and Republican David Perdue for Senate and between Republican Gov. Nathan Deal and Democrat Jason Carter.
Past runoffs have largely favored Republicans. And Democrats would not only have to get a greater share of their voters back to the polls than in past efforts, but they might have to do it more than once.
A runoff in the governor's race would be set for Dec. 2, but a Senate runoff wouldn't happen until five weeks later on Jan. 6.
