Letter Campaign Hopes to Bring JetBlue to Tallahassee

TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - A letter writing campaign hopes to convince JetBlue that the airline has a place at the Tallahassee International Airport.

Tuesday, TLH sent out 40 letters to JetBlue to show, "...a strong community desire to have the air carrier offer service in Tallahassee," according to the City.

Airport Director Chris Curry says, "These letters are part of an ongoing effort to demonstrate that offering service through TLH makes good business sense for JetBlue and that it would also benefit Tallahassee's business, leisure and tourism markets."

While many letters are from established Tallahassee businesses and leaders, there were messages from business owners thinking about how the airline could make Tallahassee a destination for future industry.

Willie Arnold, the president of engineering company Arnold-Hanafin, is one of those business owners.

Arnold explained that his company is in the early stages of creating a new aerospace engineering facility that can help lower company costs. Tallahassee made the list of possible locations for the business because of its low cost of living and access to qualified students that can be hired and trained.

Arnold says though, that unless JetBlue came to TLH, it wouldn't be feasible for the company to make the move and that is why he decided to participate in the letter writing campaign.

The City of Tallahassee says that this campaign is just one way airport staff is working to bring cheap flights to Tallahassee.

Another one of those programs is an Air Carrier Incentive Program which waives landing fees and passenger security charges as well as provides marketing assistance to airlines that create new non-stop service from TLH.
