TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Leon County voters could decide in November whether or not to welcome a new children services council.
It's a taxpayer-funded program.
WTXL's Jada Williams was live with the details about what the council could offer children in our community.
The program would offer services ranging from juvenille crime prevention to mental health to helping abused children.
On Wednesday a panel is planned to get the word out about just how the proposed Children's Service Council will impact taxpayers and children across Leon County.
The event will feature a panel of diverse perspectives relative to the creation of the CSC and the impact it could have for our local community.
If placed on the ballot and approved, Florida law grants each Children's Services Council the power to distribute tax revenue to maintain services needed for the welfare of children in the county.
Many people are questioning how the council would be equipped to effectively spend the $8 million in taxpayer money.
But officials say there is a Florida statute detailing just who would be in control.
This panel discussion comes before the public hearing that is scheduled for next Tuesday.
