TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) -- The Leon County Tourist Development Council is hoping to continue attracting visitors to the area throughout the year. It's now their goal to make the process to apply for grants easier for those trying to hold special events, sports, and signature events, by allowing them to apply online, simplifying the process. They will accept online applications beginning June 1st. A workshop to review the new online application was held Wednesday, May 27th.
The grants are funds from the Tourist Development Council's annual budget. They're given out to groups and organizations putting together events that have a demonstrated history or the potential to bring visitors to the area.
"Driving the tourism impact to the community really helps our local businesses, helps our hotels, restaurants and shopping in the area", said Brian Hickey, Senior Sports Sales Manager of Leon County Tourist Development. "Those dollars stay in our community and help build up the tax-base for our community so we can grow and expand."
Those applying for the grants must do so by Monday, August 3rd. The number and extent of the grants is determined by the availability of funds.
