TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Leon County Schools has announced its finalists for 2016 - 2017 Teacher of the Year.
Five educators are now up for the annual award.
Officials said that the finalists were selected by a committee of teachers, administrators, parents and community representatives from among 44 candidates.
The committee selected the finalists based ‘blind applications’ (no names or schools on them) reviews on each candidate. The next step for the finalists will be an interview process with the selection committee on Wednesday.
The candidates are:
o Jessica Hooker, a third grade teacher at Springwood Elementary
o Lynn Janasiewicz, a second grade teacher at Buck Lake Elementary
o Linda Kaye Johnson, a middle school art teacher at Deerlake Middle School
o Wanda Moore, a exceptional student education teacher at Rickards High
o William Penn, a art teacher at Killearn Lakes Elementary
The winner will be surprised at their school Thursday morning.
