Leon County Students Read 1.5 Million Books as Part of Million Dollar Book Challenge

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)- Leon County students learned today they surpassed this year's Million Dollar Book Challenge.

More than 600 elementary students gathered at a pep rally today to hear Superintendent Jackie Pons read the book "This Book Just Ate My Dog" and to celebrate the success of the challenge.

Pons announced today students read 1.5 million books during the challenge.

Students in all grade levels participated, with schools keeping track of individual books read.

100 volunteers from the United Way Reading Pals initiative contributed by reading 10,000 books in Leon County Schools.
