TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - One year has passed since Hurricane Hermine left Leon County with much to clean up and still, the county is working to get federal funds to cover what it spent on the recovery process.

Officials submitted to FEMA a total of more than $11 million in Hermine-related costs.

The county reports that "all costs for reimbursement have been or in the final stages of obligation by FEMA."

Once that's done, FEMA provides funding to the state and the county can submit reimbursement requests.

Leon County Emergency Management Director Kevin Peters says getting all of the FEMA funding may have been slowed down by recent events across the country.

"The process for going through the FEMA reimbursements, there's a lot of work at the federal level," Peters explained. "A lot of local jurisdictions, counties and cities across the state -- other states in the Southeast, as well as some of the Harvey activity before Irma -- has really applied a lot of pressure to the federal government. So, there's a lot of work to be done, but we're going through the process. Our projects are moving through."
