LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Wednesday's winter weather forced several schools and districts in our area to close.

For Leon County Schools, today it was back to class for all students, but a few other districts closed again today.

Those days missed are not just going away.

The district says the last time it had to close because of winter weather was in January 2014.

A spokesperson says this school year is the first on record to have both hurricane and snow days!

The district's high schools are based on the number of hours in the year, not days. The elementary and middle schools still operate by days, though it's unlikely any more will be tacked onto this year because of the weather-related closures.

Every time the district has to make a change to its schedule, it's required to contact the state.

This morning, the district made sure the rooms in each school were heated and dry as part of their routine checks during the winter. They also check the power and no issues with found.
