Leon County Schools Suspend Standardized Test Amid Technology Issues

Posted

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- Teachers were met with some major issues today while trying to administer Florida's brand new standardized test.

Several school districts across the state were forced to delay or suspend testing thanks to technical issues with the Florida Standards Assessment.

The problems were widespread, from Hillsborough county to Palm Beach and even here in Leon County.

Most students took the test online. School officials in Leon County reported problems with accessing a secure browser, issues with the bandwidth speed, inability for the test administrators to log in, and they say students were even kicked out of the test after they had been working for an extended period of time.

Superintendent Jackie Pons sent a letter to the Education Commissioner Pam Stewart regarding the issues. He says Leon county will be delaying administering the test until assurances are given by the Department of Education that the test will be able to be administered without problems or cause for concern.

A spokeswoman for Stewart said state officials are looking into the cause of the problems.
