LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - A moment of silence was held at 10:17 a.m. at one Leon County school.

It was to honor the 17 victims who were killed in the Parkland shooting a year ago.

Students stood up in silence to recognize the victims. Many spoke about the issues of mental health and the need for better security at schools everywhere including Leon County.

"Leon County has actually done a good job with the new rules regarding school safety, like, the gates being locked, and school doors being locked. It's actually a lot harder now to get in, which I think is, like, better, but, I don't know," said Morgan Glenn, Student Body President. "I feel as though it's taken a good action in decreasing the chance of this happening again already."

School officials said after the tragedy last year, security in schools was updated in the county.

They also plan to address more school security issues in the near future.
