LEON CO., FL (WTXL) - The Leon County School Board will meet on Tuesday at 6 p.m. to decide on the BP oil spill settlement.
Both Superintendent Jackie Pons and School Board Attorney Jeff Wahlen encourage the board to approve the settlement agreement.
Should this happen, Leon County will receive the payment from the settlement within 30 days. In return, the board agrees to end all claims against the oil company and affiliated parties.
This settlement is in regards to the five-year-old Deepwater Horizon oil spill that caused damage to many coastal areas on the Gulf of Mexico. BP, responsible for the spill, have been working with the courts to repay affected areas for the disaster.
