TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Some Leon County School Board members left a Senate meeting Tuesday and headed directly to their first board meeting since the Stoneman Douglas shooting.
The school board meeting began with a moment of silence for those affected.
Students shared their thoughts on the value of life, and members of the board placed strong emphasis on having the tough conversations needed to ensure school safety.
Safety and Security Chief John Hunkiar spoke at Superintendent Rocky Hanna's request.
He pledges continuous improvements to school safety procedures.
Board members are hopeful that potential state funding will be allocated to improve school safety.
