TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Leon County County has opened several shelters throughout the Big Bend Area.
But residents who have pets, who are unable to evacuate, also need a safe place to stay.
That's why Chiles High School is serving as a shelter for those with four-legged friends.
Local resident Glorida Ford: "I'm a senior citizen. I live off of Centerville Road and there are a lot of pines and oak trees, and I'm concerned about being there with the storms and the winds that are predicted im bringing myself and my cat Harley Davidson here so I feel like I'd rather be safe than sorry."
Individuals who plan to bring their pets to a shelter must bring any necessary items, including food, blankets and medications.
