TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- Leon County has its first case of the Zika virus, but officials say not to worry.
The Florida Department of Health in Leon County was made aware of the case Friday.
This is not a case where the virus was transmitted locally. Rather, it was contracted through travel.
However, the county took action over the weekend. Leon County Mosquito Control canvassed the neighborhood where the virus was located Saturday.
"They went door to door from the properties, and they provided spraying services upon request," said Mathieu Cavell, public information officer of Leon County. "They also educated citizens on how to control mosquito breeding in their area, 'drain and cover,' and then, they also dumped out standing water for those citizens, too."
The county health department is not providing more details about the individual with the virus or the neighborhood that was canvassed.
Governor Rick Scott announced last week that all county health departments in the state would provide zika testing to pregnant women free of charge.
