TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - Tallahassee officials are considering putting a sidewalk along a stretch of Old St. Augustine Road.
The Canopy Roads Citizens Committee toured the area Thursday morning with officials from the planning department. The project will extend from Blairstone Road to Jim Russell Road.
A committee member said preserving trees on Canopy Roads has been a concern but so far, the plan seemed to keep much of the area intact.
Committee member Pierce Withers said, "The canopy roads in Leon County are a very important cultural and natural resource. Tallahassee and Leon County are known for our beautiful trees, which is why the committee exists in the first place -- to protect, preserve and also restore and enhance and manage the Canopy Road Protection Zone, which is over 70 miles of Leon County."
The committee will meet with the planning department in a public meeting next week to follow up from the site visit.
