LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Leon County Schools is making a commitment to be less wasteful this school year.

Leon County Superintendent Rocky Hanna says schools in Leon County will send a total of $1 million to all high schools and middle schools to off set costs for parents and their kids to participate in athletics.

And Friday, Rickards High, received $50,000.

"The coaches are really excited," said Claudette Farmar, Rickards High School Athletic Director. "All the coaches and athletic directors in the county are excited about this infusion of money parents won't have to dig quite as deep in their pockets to offset or supplement the cost of athletic participation."

School starts Monday, Aug. 13.
