TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - With digital resources such as audio and e books becoming more common, Leon County is looking to bring new resources to its libraries.
WTXL's Jada Williams was live this Tuesday morning to tell us about how the county is working to pull fresh ideas for the libraries.
The county is going before the Leon County Commission Tuesday to ask for approval before proposing a grant that would allow a library tour.
The tour would include libraries across the southeast that have innovative library programs such as STEM, entrepreneurial spaces and other things that could also benefit Leon county.
The Knight Foundation Grant money would go toward making the most out of the physical space of libraries.
The library here is now used less for checking out books and as more of a community hub.
In 2018, the Library's 10 meetings rooms were reserved for more than 3,300 meetings, a 62 percent increase in reservations since 2016.
Heather Peeples, the Special Projects Coordinator for Leon County, said: "Really interesting things are happening within public library systems. There are spaces for our creative communities, maker spaces. You increasingly see libraries being a space for entrepreneurs and business communities. We think there's a lot that we can do in Leon county to make our libraries continuously relevant and a place that everyone can utilize."
If approved by the commission, the county would get an answer from the Knight Foundation by early next year and quickly begin those tours.
