LEON COUNTY, FL. (WTXL) - Leon County is launching a Tactical Medic Program.

Paramedics will be training with the Leon County Sheriff's Office to be able to work its Swat Team during an active and dangerous situation.

The program begins after 6 months of intensive training and the completion of a tactical combat casualty care course. The paramedics train and function as an integrated component of the sheriff's office swat team. They will be on call every hour of every day.

Currently, the response standard is to station e-m-s nearby until the location is secured. With TMP training, Leon County EMS can now enter "Hot Zones" and immediately work to stabilize patients and reduce fatalities.
