TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)-- Members of Leon County laced up their shoes Saturday to "Stomp Out Diabetes."
The Foundation for Leon County Schools partnered with the Tallahassee Museum and Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare to offer free museum admission to raise awareness for diabetes.
The event featured a fun, family walk, health screenings, and animal exhibits.
"What we're doing here today is giving families the resources and the information they need to help thwart childhood obesity which is directly related to type 2 diabetes, so we know that if we can change the family culture we can make a dent at what's happening in our schools," said Sheila Costigan, executive director of the foundation.
Nearly 1 in 3 children are at risk for type 2 diabetes.
