TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - With temperatures reaching over 100 degrees inside a Perry animal shelter, officials put out a call for help.
The Taylor County Shelter is currently undergoing renovations and as a result, there was a lack of air flow and AC in the kennel area earlier this week.
Animal Shelters across the area stepped up to help including the Leon County Human Society, who took a total of 23 animals.
Deirdre Carey, the Cat Foster Program Coordinator at LCHS, says that as soon as they heard about the situation, they knew they had to help, "we received a phone call from an area human society, and they said the shelter was undergoing construction and had some unexpected issues with it which had caused it be very hot in that area."
The shelter took in 3 cat litters and their mothers totaling to 22 cats, as well as one dog. Officials say enough foster families have come forward to help out, however they are still in need of donations to help take care of these animals.
