LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Leon County officials hosted a highway dedication ceremony in honor of Reverend C.K. Steele.

He's best known for his work during the Civil Rights Movement, including his leadership during the Tallahassee Bus Boycott in 1956.

"If he was here today, he probably would say, 'Keep up the fight. Don't think that you've made it. Keep up the fight. Don't lose hope, and keep your faith,'" said Darryl Steele, son of C.K. Steele.

The Leon County Board of County Commissioners presented the C.K. Steele Memorial Highway marker at the intersection of Orange Avenue and Monroe Street.

The highway designation stretches from South Monroe Street to South Blair Stone Road.

This is the county's continuation of what the State did a couple of weeks ago.
