TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Leon County highway will officially be renamed in honor of a fallen deputy.

Deputy Christopher Smith was killed in the line of duty nearly four years ago.

Smith was responding to reports of a house fire on Nov. 22nd, 2014, when he was ambushed.

The length of U.S. Highway 90 from Chaires Cross Road in Leon County to State Road 59 in Jefferson County will now be called the "Deputy Christopher Smith Memorial Highway."

Smith worked as a deputy in both counties during his career.

Tuesday's sign unveiling ceremony will begin this morning at 10 a.m. at the Hilltop Country Store on Mahan Drive.
