TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Honor Flight program gives back to local communities by giving veterans the opportunity to visit memorials in Washington D.C. Now area high school students are hoping to give back to these veterans as well.
Tallahassee Honor Flight Vice Chairman, Tom Napier wasn't expecting a check when he walked in to the doors of Lincoln High school Monday afternoon. Shortly after leading a discussion about the Honor Flight program, students presented Napier and the organization with money to sponsor a veteran's trip.
Officials with Leon County Schools were also in attendance at the event, expressing plans to support the Honor Flight program in all Leon County schools for the upcoming year. Leon and Chiles High school have already announced plans to sponsor a veteran as well.
Honor Flight Tallahassee was established in 2012, and is completely funded by donations. Veterans with top priority to be chosen for trips include survivors of WWII, and any veteran with a terminal illness.
