TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - The Emergency 911 telephone system was interrupted due to a hardware failure Friday afternoon.
According to the Leon County Sheriff's Office, Leon County Emergency Management Staff, following established protocols, was able to identify the issue and restore service.
The system was interrupted for approximately 33 minutes, starting around 3:26pm. During that time, the sheriff's office says , the majority of calls to the system were from staff testing the system. However, officials say 18 Emergency 911 calls went unanswered, but were logged into the system.
According to the sheriff's office, emergency management staff began "reverse 911" dialing those calls, as soon as service was restored.
Leon County Emergency Management and AK Associates, the vendor responsible for the 911 hardware, are continuing to investigate the cause of the interruption.
