TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Leon County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a fraud scam that has been seen in many parts of the nation.
The details of the scam start with people calling businesses and pretending to be corporate or loss prevention officers.
The suspects then inform the store clerks to send money via a prepaid card or other form. They says that victims are given the number over the phone, and then told to destroy the cards in question.
Deputies say that they want to remind residents and business employees to not send money to individuals through prepaid cards or other forms without personally authenticating the request with a known contact first.
