LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Leon County Commissioners are discussing election security, ahead of November's midterm election.
Commissioners approved the Leon County Supervisor of Elections to spend almost a quarter of a million dollars to help protect election security in the county.
District 4 commissioner Bryan Desolge says this grant is important because it lets people know they can come out and vote, and it will be protected.
"Hopefully this will clear the doors and maybe open the doors for people to get out and be a little more active with the process," said Bryan Desloge, the Leon County Commissioner for District 4. "The goal here is to make it as safe as possible, easy as possible, and remove any impediments from anybody that may have a reason not to vote.“
Leon County commissioners also approved the counties attempt to buy property on COE Landing Road.
The approved buy will allow county administrators to put in a bid of $159,000 for the 3.5 acres of land that is adjacent to COE landing Park on Lake Talquin. The director of resource stewardship explained why the county is trying to buy the land.
"The property boarders Lake Talquin and we are limited on the ultimate number of campers and day-anglers that can make use of the existing park, so purchase makes a really unique opportunity for us to expand those amenities and offerings to our public," said Maggie Theriot, the director of resource stewardship.
