TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - Leon County is kicking off its 2016 Adopt-A-Tree program.

They'll be accepting applications now through Jan. 31.

Between January and March of next year, public works will plant Eastern Redbud trees in the yards of residents outside of the city limits, who commit to watering the tree three times a week for one year.

The trees may be planted anywhere between a house and any publicly maintained road with public access.

Once the application is complete, you will be able to place a wooden stake at the desired location for the tree and public works staff will then plant it as close to that area as possible.

To fill out an application, simply visit www.LeonCountyFL.gov/AdoptaTree or stop by the Public Works building at 2280 Miccosukee Rd. Applications will be accepted through Jan. 31, 2016.
