LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Leon County is applying for federal funding from FEMA and the Florida Division of Emergency Management.

The money will be for the Hazard Mitigation Grant program, which is used to bring rundown areas up to code.

One of the locations the county is requesting funding for is 4908 Crooked Road.

Officials say the purpose of the project is to remove the structures and septic systems from potential future flood damage. Environmentalists say if they were to get the funding they would first have to remove the structure.

The other location the county is requesting funding for is at 12386 Waterfront Drive.

Officials say they're not sure when they will find out if their application was approved.
