LEON COUNTY, FL - Leon County and National Weather Service Tallahassee is launching a new mobile app to keep people informed and prepared while two systems develop in the Gulf and Atlantic.
It's the "Leon County Citizens Connect mobile app and Weather Ready Nation Program."
A press conference will be held Thursday, June 22 at 10:30 a.m. at the Public Safety Complex on Easterwood Drive, in Tallahassee.
Meteorologists says they're forecasting to have above-normal storm activity.
The 2017 Atlantic hurricane season brings two weather systems into the central Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico that have potential to become tropical cyclones.
As a result, Leon County will be joined by the National Weather Service to host this press conference encouraging citizens to be prepared by downloading the Leon County Citizens Connect mobile application.
Officials say the County's Citizens Connect mobile app is the community's best source of emergency and disaster information delivered right to your smartphone or mobile device through push notifications of timely and accurate County alerts.
While unlikely to directly impact Florida, the systems could bring heavy rain on the heels of a couple of weeks of rainy weather for the Leon County area.
More rain fell in the first two weeks of June this year than all of June 2016.
The joint press conference will demonstrate how Leon County's mobile technology receives and distributes National Weather Service watches and warnings.
In addition, local experts will discuss how those official updates are then relayed with County-specific details and directions so that citizens are best informed during a weather event or other disaster.
Also as part of the press conference, National Weather Service will recognize Leon County as a Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador because of its work on the Citizens Connect mobile application, as well as other public information and education efforts.
