LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Getting ahead of this storm system is the key for Leon County and the City of Tallahassee. Officials urging residents to get supplies and come up with a plan now.
City and county officials have been working together to communicate their own plans with the public. The sheriff says local law enforcement is working on how to manage possible road closures.
The Red Cross is urging folks to become volunteers as shelters may need to open up. And Leon County has issued a local state of emergency, opening up more resources to help out faster.
"If there's one thing that we learned after the storm last year, it's that preparation and communication is key," said John Dailey, a Leon County commission chair. "The mayor and I and our colleagues are 100 percent committed to not only working together with our professional staff and the men and women of the City of Tallahassee and Leon County, but to work with everyone within the county to make sure that you have the most up-to-date information in the the most up-to-date manner that you possibly can -- so we can all be prepared for what could or might not come to Tallahassee- Leon County."
No decisions have been made regarding schools and higher education.
As for protecting homes and properties, the city and county will have sandbag locations ready to go Wednesday morning.
