LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Leon County commissioners went over finances at a preliminary budget workshop Tuesday.
The upcoming fiscal year includes more support for law enforcement and improving infrastructure.
The county also approved a "sense of place" plan for Miccosukee.
It's a rural community in the northeast and the county has plans to promote the area's history and find ways to improve quality of life.
Miccosukee has roots from at least the 19th century. The community was designated a Florida Heritage Site in 2004. The county now owns the old Concord School and wants to use it for more community services.
Commissioner Kristin Dozier studied at that school growing up. She said the county's plans for the site and the community will bring positive change.
"This also gives us an opportunity to lift up the history in that area. It could attract people who want to go biking or experience the history, play ball, do a lot of thing," said Dozier, who's the commissioner for District 5. "It'll be good for the whole community, but definitely the people in Miccosukee."
The county went over several other topics Tuesday, including plans for a new training facility for the sheriff's office.
