TALLAHASSEE, Fla (WWSB) -- It may soon be illegal for teenagers in Florida to buy cigarettes or other tobacco products.
A state senator has filed a bill that would raise the smoking age in Florida from 18 to 21 years-old.
Democrat Darryl Rouson's bill would amend a Florida statute that currently restricts the sale, barter, furnishing, delivery, and gift of tobacco products to those 18 and over.
Although most states in the country currently allow smoking at the age of 18, including Florida, anti-tobacco activists have been pushing to raise that age to 21.
Hawaii already bans tobacco use for people under 21.
There are also cities in some states that have similar rules.
